Share with:

Sir, my wife is breastfeeding a 1-year-old baby. There is a soft lump-like feeling in the breast and a small blister on the nipple that seems filled with pus or milk. It was not there a day ago; it appeared the next day. Please suggest a remedy. Her age is 24.

Hello

Have a Healthy Day !!

Welcome to the world of health from Ayurveda conducted by Dr. Nikul Patel.

Your wife is breastfeeding a 1-year-old baby, there is a soft lump in the breast, and a small blister filled with pus or milk has appeared on the nipple within a day.

During breastfeeding this is mostly due to a blocked milk duct (milk getting stuck – a “milk bleb”), and it is usually not serious.

If the breast becomes red, hot and hard, fever comes, the pus increases, or there is no improvement in 2–3 days, show a nearby gynaecologist immediately – it could be breast inflammation (mastitis) or an abscess.

What to do:

  1. Feed the baby frequently from the same side – emptying the breast is very important; do not stop breastfeeding.
  2. Before feeding, give warm fomentation for 10 minutes and gently massage from the lump towards the nipple.
  3. Do not burst the blister yourself or prick it with a needle.
  4. Wear loose cotton clothes.

Medicines (safe during breastfeeding – 15 days):

  1. Shatavari churna – 1 teaspoon morning and evening with milk
  2. Kanchanar guggulu – 1 tablet morning and evening (only 15 days, on a doctor’s advice)
