My question is about low weight in the teenage years. I am eighteen or nineteen years old, and my body is very thin. Compared with other girls my age, I look leaner.
Because of my low weight, I am not happy with myself. Sometimes I feel bad, and thinking about my appearance lowers my confidence. I do not want to take any strong medicines or powders from the market. I want my body to become healthy through simple remedies I can do at home and the right food.
I have heard that the body is still developing at this age, so proper nutrition is very important. But I do not clearly understand what exactly to eat, how often to eat and what to avoid. I also want to know when to worry about thinness at this age and when it is considered natural.
My questions are:
– Which home remedies help gain weight in a healthy way?
– Which things should I add to my daily food?
– What should I do if I feel less hungry?
– Which exercise or yoga is useful at this age?
– What does Ayurveda advise about thinness at this age?
– Which signs make it necessary to see a doctor?
I am ready to keep trying regularly with patience. Simple guidance that I can follow at home will help me a lot, and I will be able to feel happier about myself.
Hello
Have a Healthy Day !!
Welcome to the world of health from Ayurveda conducted by Dr. Nikul Patel.
Direct answer: At this age the body is still forming, and with enough nourishing food, regular sleep and light exercise, many young women gain weight gradually. If periods are irregular, there is tiredness, or weight does not increase despite eating, tests are needed.
Understanding the problem
Causes of low weight can include heredity, eating too little, skipping meals, low haemoglobin, thyroid problems, worms or study stress. Sometimes the fear of “I will become fat” also leads to eating less; if so, it needs special attention.
The Ayurvedic view
In Ayurveda, excessive thinness is called Karshya, and Vata is increased in it. In women, the nourishment of Rasa Dhatu is especially important, because Artava (menstruation) and the health of the whole body are linked with it. Treatment mainly involves improving Agni and Brimhana.
Home and practical remedies
- Never skip breakfast; eat a little at a time, 5-6 times a day.
- Warm milk at night before sleep, with dates or figs (if it suits you).
- Bananas, sweet potatoes, potatoes, chikoo, mango (as per season).
- A little ghee every day with dal-rice or roti.
- Light exercise such as Surya Namaskar, Bhujangasana and Vajrasana (after meals); it increases appetite.
- 8 hours of sleep, no late nights on the mobile.
What to avoid in diet
- Junk food, cold drinks, too much tea or coffee (they suppress appetite).
Medicine
In Ayurveda, Brimhana substances such as Shatavari and Ashwagandha, and Deepana medicines for appetite, are considered useful. Regular Abhyanga is also beneficial. The right medicine, dose and timing will be decided by the vaidya after examining your condition. Do not take weight-gain powders from the internet on your own.
When to see a doctor?
- Periods very irregular or stopped
- Dizziness, extreme tiredness, breathlessness
- Weight falling despite eating
- Constant fear about food, deliberately eating less, or vomiting after eating
Related Questions
Does low weight affect periods?
Yes, very low weight can make periods irregular or stop them.
What to eat at night to gain weight?
A light meal and warm milk if it suits you; nothing heavy or fried.
Why is Shatavari useful for women?
In Ayurveda it is considered a nourishing Rasayana for women; take it on a vaidya’s advice.
In short: Low weight in the teenage years is mostly due to too little or irregular food. Nourishing food 5-6 times a day, ghee, milk, fruit, sleep and light exercise help gain weight; get tested if periods are irregular or there is extreme tiredness.
