Swelling and Redness of the Scrotal Skin, and White Patches on the Penile Skin

Share with:

My question is about two skin problems in the private area. I am a 26-year-old young man.

The first problem is that today swelling has appeared on the skin of my scrotum. Part of it has become red and puffy. Because this happened suddenly, I am worried.

The second problem is on the upper skin of the penis, where white patches are visible. Two years ago I had ringworm, which was cured with medicine. So I suspect: are these white patches ringworm again? Or is it some other skin problem?

I hesitate to talk to anyone about problems in this area, and reading on the internet increases my fear. I also do not know whether it is right to apply some cream on my own.

My questions are:
– What could be the causes of sudden swelling and redness on the scrotal skin?
– Could the white patches on the penile skin be ringworm, or something else?
– Is it safe to apply some cream on my own?
– What treatment does Ayurveda have for both these problems?
– What should be kept in mind about hygiene and clothing?
– Which symptoms make it necessary to see a doctor immediately?

I want a proper solution for both problems, and I feel it is important to know in time if something serious is involved. Your clear advice will be useful.

Hello

Have a Healthy Day !!

Welcome to the world of health from Ayurveda conducted by Dr. Nikul Patel.

Direct answer: Sudden swelling and redness of the scrotal skin can be due to infection, fungal ringworm, allergy or sometimes a problem in the organ inside, so a doctor’s examination is necessary. White patches on the penile skin can be a different condition such as fungal infection, skin irritation or white patches (vitiligo); the exact cause can only be known through examination.

Understanding the problem

  • Moisture, sweat, tight underwear and incomplete treatment make ringworm (fungal infection) come back.
  • Swelling on the skin may be a simple infection, but if there is pain in the testicle along with it, it can be an emergency.
  • White patches can be colour change after ringworm has healed, fungal infection or vitiligo; each has a different treatment.

The Ayurvedic view

In Ayurveda, ringworm is called Dadru, which arises from disturbance of Kapha-Pitta and Rakta (blood). White patches on the skin are understood under Shvitra, a condition separate from Dadru. Treatment mainly involves hygiene, Rakta Shodhana (blood purification), avoiding Viruddha Ahara (incompatible food combinations) and improving digestion.

Practical steps

  • Examination by a doctor or skin specialist; if needed, a skin scraping test.
  • After bathing, dry the area well; cotton, loose underwear.
  • Separate towels and clothes; wash in hot water and dry in the sun.
  • Do not scratch; avoid scented soaps.
  • If there is a partner with symptoms, she should also be examined.

Diet

  • Avoid incompatible foods with milk, such as sour, salty or fish.
  • Less sweets, fermented and fried food; bitter vegetables and turmeric are useful.

Medicine

In Ayurveda, blood-purifying substances such as neem, turmeric, Manjishtha and Khadira, and medicines such as Gandhak Rasayan, are considered useful in skin disease. Do not apply any paste on your own to the delicate skin of the genitals. The right medicine, dose and timing will be decided by the vaidya after examining your condition.

When to see a doctor immediately?

  • Sudden severe pain or swelling in the testicle (can be an emergency)
  • Fever, rapidly spreading redness, pus
  • Sores, blisters or discharge
  • White patches increasing quickly or appearing elsewhere too

Related Questions

Why does ringworm keep coming back?

Because of moisture, sweat, incomplete treatment and poor hygiene of clothes.

Are all white patches on the penis ringworm?

No, they can be another condition too; a skin specialist’s examination is needed.

What is the difference between Dadru and Shvitra?

Dadru is itchy ringworm; Shvitra is a condition in which the skin loses its colour.

In short: Swelling and redness of the scrotal skin can be due to infection, ringworm or allergy; if there is pain in the testicle, get examined immediately. White patches on the penis can be something other than ringworm. Hygiene, keeping the area dry and blood-purifying care on a vaidya’s advice are useful.
