Does Frequent Intercourse Make the Body Weak?

My question is about intimate life after a new marriage. We have been married only a short time, and during this time we have intercourse frequently. We are both happy with this.

But the elders at home say that having intercourse this often makes a man’s body weak, causes “dhatu kshaya” (loss of vital tissue), drains strength from the body and brings many problems in the future. They advise restraint. After hearing this, worry has settled in my mind, and now if I ever feel tired, the same thought comes to mind.

I respect what the elders say, but I also want to know the correct scientific and Ayurvedic understanding, so that I do not have to live in false fear.

My questions are:
– Does frequent intercourse really make a man’s body weak?
– What is “dhatu kshaya”, and does it really happen?
– How often is intercourse considered normal, is there a rule?
– Which signs mean restraint and rest are needed?
– What does Ayurveda say about excessive intercourse and seasonal restraint?
– What should be kept in mind in diet and routine to maintain strength?

With your guidance, I will be able to lovingly explain the truth to the elders too, and we will both be able to enjoy our married life without fear, with understanding and care for our health.

Namaste. This belief is heard in many homes, and it holds a little truth and a lot of exaggeration.

Direct answer: For a healthy couple, frequent intercourse is generally not harmful, and it does not cause permanent weakness. The body naturally takes care of itself. But if there is constant tiredness, lack of sleep, loss of interest in work or pain after intercourse, then restraint and rest are needed.

Understanding the problem

  • There is no fixed right number for “how often”; it depends on age, health and the wishes of both.
  • Tiredness often comes not from intercourse but from less sleep, late nights and irregular meals.
  • The consent and comfort of both are most important.

The Ayurvedic view

Ayurveda considers Ati Maithuna (excess) a cause of increased Vata and reduced Ojas, which can bring tiredness, weakness and mental instability. At the same time, Ayurveda regards a moderate and natural sexual life, according to season, age and strength, as part of happiness and health. So the issue is “excess”, not intercourse itself. Strength is considered higher in winter and lower in summer, so there is also advice on seasonal restraint.

Practical steps

  • Listen to your body’s signals: tiredness, lack of sleep, pain.
  • Avoid staying up late at night; enough sleep.
  • Give importance to the wishes and consent of both.
  • Listen lovingly to the elders’ concern, but do not live in fear.

Diet and lifestyle

  • Nourishing food: milk, ghee in moderation, dates, almonds, fruit, pulses.
  • Regular exercise and meals on time.
  • Abhyanga (oil massage) once a week.

About herbs

Usually no medicine is needed. If tiredness stays high, Rasayana herbs such as Ashwagandha and Shatavari can be taken on a vaidya’s advice. The vaidya will decide the choice and amount after examination.

Warning signs: when to see a specialist?

  • Constant pain, burning or bleeding after intercourse
  • Extreme tiredness, weight loss, loss of appetite
  • Burning while passing urine (especially in the woman, after a new marriage)
  • Pressure on one partner without their wish

Whom to consult: Sexologist, Ayurvedic vaidya; a gynaecologist if the woman has pain.

Example 1: After a new marriage, a young man became afraid from the elders’ talk that he was getting weak. In conversation it turned out that his tiredness was from late nights and less sleep. After improving his sleep, the tiredness went away.

Example 2: In another couple, the wife had burning while passing urine after frequent intercourse. An infection was found on testing; with treatment and drinking more water, she improved.
