Ejaculation Takes Very Long with a Condom: What Should I Do?

I am 29 and have been married for two years. We are not planning a child yet, so we use condoms. Without a condom everything feels normal, but when I wear one, sensation drops and ejaculation takes a long time. Sometimes it does not happen at all, and the erection also becomes a little soft.

My wife gets tired and I feel disappointed too. Is this a disease? What kind of condom should I use? Or should we consider another contraceptive?

Namaste. Many men ask this question, and usually there is a simple solution.

Direct answer: Some reduced sensation and longer time to ejaculate with a condom is common in many men, and if everything is normal without a condom, it is not a sign of disease. A thin condom of the right size, a lubricant and a calm mind usually make a difference.

Understanding the problem

  • A thick or wrong-sized condom reduces sensation; a very tight condom can cause pressure and soften the erection.
  • Putting on a condom causes a short pause, and the thought “what if it goes soft now?” increases anxiety.
  • Dryness increases friction and reduces comfort for both.
  • A habit of very frequent or particular-style masturbation can make ejaculation take longer during intercourse.

The Ayurvedic view

According to Ayurveda, the process of ejaculation is controlled by Apana Vata. Worry, fatigue and staying up late unsettle Vata, which can sometimes cause early and sometimes very late ejaculation. When the mind is calm and the body nourished, this process becomes natural.

Psychological understanding

The pressure that “ejaculation must happen” itself often pushes ejaculation further away. Keeping the focus on pleasure and connection lets the body respond naturally.

Practical steps

  • Choose a thin (thin / ultra-thin) condom of the right size; not too tight.
  • Continue touch and closeness while putting on the condom, so the pause does not feel long.
  • Use a water- or silicone-based lubricant; do not use an oil-based lubricant with latex condoms, as it can make the condom tear.
  • If there is a masturbation habit, reduce it for a while.
  • You can discuss other contraceptives (such as methods for women) together with a gynaecologist.

Diet and lifestyle

  • Enough sleep, less stress, daily exercise.
  • Less or no alcohol; it can increase delay in ejaculation.
  • Yoga: Mula Bandha, pelvic floor exercises, Anulom-Vilom.

About herbs

Usually no medicine is needed. If stress and fatigue are high, herbs such as Ashwagandha and Brahmi are supportive. The dose and choice will be decided by the Vaidya after examination. Some medicines for depression or anxiety can delay ejaculation; if you are on such medicine, tell your doctor and do not stop it yourself.

Warning signs: when to see a doctor?

  • Ejaculation does not happen or is very late even without a condom
  • Pain during ejaculation, blood in semen
  • A clear fall in desire, fatigue
  • The problem began after starting a new medicine

Whom to consult: a sexologist; a urologist if needed.

Example 1: A man around 30 took longer to ejaculate with condoms. He was using thick, tight condoms. After switching to a thin condom of the right size and a lubricant, both felt much more comfortable.

Example 2: In another man ejaculation was late both with and without a condom. Conversation revealed a daily masturbation habit and lack of sleep. He reduced the habit, improved his sleep and took counselling, and within a few weeks he improved.
