Hello

Have a Healthy Day !!

Welcome to the world of health from Ayurveda conducted by Dr. Nikul Patel.

Your question is very important. The bond between mother and child is through mother’s milk. Mother’s milk nourishes the child, gives long life, increases immunity and provides nutrition. From the Ayurvedic point of view, breastfeeding up to a certain age is essential for children. If the mother is healthy, her milk balances all three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – gives strength and improves eyesight, and most importantly it satisfies the child. Ayurveda even says that if the mother is unwell or has died, milk from a healthy wet-nurse of similar nature should be given.

Is stopping breastfeeding early harmful for mother and child? For the child it is certainly harmful, as the benefits above show. It is harmful for the mother too: research shows that women who breastfeed less or stop early – whether due to a job, lack of time or to preserve their looks – except when they are ill, have a higher chance of breast lumps and breast cancer. Milk collecting in the breast can cause pain, swelling and lumps in the milk ducts.

Not breastfeeding one’s own child because of fashion or shyness is like stepping away from the duty of maternal love. Motherhood is born with the child, and nature has arranged that at birth a flood of affection flows through milk in both breasts. Seen as a bond between mother and child, breastfeeding creates a very deep relationship, so there is benefit in not stopping it early.

Stopping breastfeeding early harms mental beauty more than physical beauty, harms one’s womanhood and motherhood, and of course deprives the child of nourishment. If there is a medical reason to stop, discuss it with your doctor.
